Chapter 3.2 ADDING Integers

Ok ok ok, so chapter 3.2 is about adding integers.  We have gone over this with the shortcuts but you may find this process from the book easier.  So which ever way, learn it as this is VITAL to going on with math without a struggle.
This is Bishop, Brandon's little sweetie. So cute!

This is not a complete video listing but you can watch these until I return with the complete section.

ALL ABOUT THE SIGNS - Positive and Negative (SHORT CUT)

Good Evening to all,
I am inserting these videos to go over my shortcuts for figuring out problems using NEGATIVE NUMBERS
 And I use these EVERY TIME there is a negative in the problem.
I showed the short cut in Chapter 3.1 but it was difficult to see, but I will send out a copy for you all to have in your Reference Spiral.  So, glue or tape a copy into your Reference Spiral asap.
Also, the question of the day : What is the Essential Question in Chapter 3?  Email the answer to me tonight!
Meet Rondo, a little sweetie of Hannah's!!!

Chapter 3 INTEGERS and Rules.........

Good Evening to you all,

REMEMBER to email me at mrsmathatee@yahoo.com for anything you need to email me about. Keep your beepers open for questions and flaws(he he he) in the videos.
This is MAGGIE- She is Evelyn's little puppy........

This is a new chapter and a new beginning.
We are looking at INTEGERS.  Integers are whole numbers and they can be positive or negative: 5 and -5.  The other vocabulary word you need to know is ABSOLUTE VALUE.  That is the DISTANCE between the number and 0. I think the math symbol for absolute value looks like a goal post: l -5 l.  This is a short cut for saying the distance between -5 and 0 is 5.  We will go over this in class and I am sure you will enjoy this section.

Do you have any Short Cuts for you to Remember NEGATIVE RULES????

Please start using my new email address: mrsmathatee@yahoo.com for any comments or questions you have to ask me.

Chapter 2.8 Simple Interest

Good Evening to you all,

Welcome to the last lesson of this chapter and you know what that means- A chapter test coming up soon! Yikes or Psyched!!! Bet you are ready for this!!! Let me know by email or comment at the bottom as to your feeling!!!

This lesson is on Simple Interest.  Simple Interest is the money earned or owed on a principle (beginning money).  So with simple interest, you either earn money or you pay money.  If you deposit money into an account, you earn money as interest or if you borrow money, you pay money as interest.
This is a bit confusing, put listen to the videos and see if they make sense.
 If you have any questions, email them to me or save them for class.

The interest formula is I=PRT
I= interest earned or owed
P= principle
R= rate of interest
T= time( in years)

Substitute in the values and solve for the UNKNOWN.
Vocabulary words for lesson 8
Simple Interest
Principal
Rate
Time

Homework:
Watch the videos as often as needed- take notes if you want to in the REFERENCE Spiral to use for the test.

Attention Attention Attention:
Email me questions or interesting facts (at least 2) on any of Chapter 2- mrsmathatee@yahoo.com

Chapter 2.7 DISCOUNTS

Meet Jordan's pup, Buster, what a sweetie...

DISCOUNTS! Think about all of the times you've noticed that there's a discount on something you want. What if you got $20.00 for your birthday and you just noticed that those new nikes went on sale? What if they were normally $45 and there was a discount of 55% off? Would you be able to buy them? You'll know how to figure this out after these videos!

Chapter 2.6 Sales Tax, Tips and MarkUps

Good Evening to all,

And just when you think it can't get any more PRACTICAL in math class than finding the Percent of Change, we are on SALES TAX, TIPS, and MARKUP.
 I bet you are familiar with these if you have ever been with your family when they buy groceries, snowmobiles, 4 wheelers or the like.  When you go shopping next time look at the price of the item, is it the full price you will pay?  Most items that you buy, other than some groceries, will have tax added to them.
All three of these TAX, TIPS and MARKUPS in lesson 6 is about adding a cost(in percent) to the purchase price. So make sure you estimate this in before heading to the checkout counter and find you don't have enough money!

VOCABULARY: (Due: Chapter Test DAY)

Chapter 2.5

Hello,
Welcome to the second half of Chapter 2!!! We are now entering the other side of the chapter....
and this is PERCENT OF CHANGE.
Does this sound familar from Chapter 1?  I hope so because math builds on itself and here is an example of that.  So, when we look at change - we do just that- look how something changes!! (Haven't I always said that "math says itself"?)
So, we are looking at the change from one thing to another. Either that is a change that increases the number or decreases the number, but it can't stay the same.
Another thing from Chapter 1 is the percent of change is a ratio(FRACTION) that compares the change to the original amount.

PERCENT of INCREASE
amount of increase
original amount
PERCENT OF DECREASE
amount of decrease
original amount
PERCENT OF ERROR
amount of error
actual amount

So, this seems difficult and I ask you, "Where will I use this or when will I see this? "
AND my response to you would be - this is one of the most practical parts of math! Have you ever heard your parents talk about gas prices and how much they have gone up(CHANGED) from last year? Well, this chapter is the one for you! Dig right into the videos and enjoy! Email or comment to me on an example of something that changes?

This is Caitlin's Puppy dog, Hunter!!!! Looks like a little sweetie. Keep Sending in these Pics for the BLOG!

HOMEWORK - Read this blog and watch the videos as often as you need to.
 Could you write up your own problem using Percent of INCREASE, DECREASE or ERROR?????
