Chapter 6.2 EQUATIONS 1 Step Equations x /

Good Evening to all,

Today we are moving onward with 1 Step Equations using multiplication and division to solve.  The vocabulary word is a familiar one: Coefficient - the number only that is attached to the variable  will come in to play here so......

Your job is to find the value of the variable all the while of keeping the equation BALANCED.
So what you do to one side of the equation, you MUST do to the other.  You want to get the variable all by itself on one side to find the value.
Then you must check these with the 3 Step Check- Write original equation- Substitute in the Value of the variable you found- then check to make sure it is BALANCED.  The videos are fairly  clear and if you need more help, be sure to ask away!
Meet Max, the white curly pup and Sophia, the brown pup.  How adorable they are and Elisabeth is the proud owner.

Homework: Read the blog and watch the videos and TAKE NOTES in your spiral!

CHAPTER 6.1 Equations 1 step equations + -

Good Evening to all,
We are moving onward to Chapter 6 EQUATIONS and INEQUALITIES! One is a balanced act and one is not, can you guess which one is which?

Vocabulary for Lesson 1
Equation: Is rather like a balance beam where one side of the equation is EQUAL to the other side.  You are solving for the unknown value of the variable.

I would like you to use the blog and videos to complete your Reference Spirals and keep up with each lesson as we work on them.  Remember that these spirals are to be accurate and complete and you should be using these for any quiz or test coming.

This little furball, Jethro,  doesn't belong to Moriah,
but stays with her a great deal of the time. Another sweetie....

VIDEO of CHAPTER 5 Test Form 3B

Good Evening to all,
Please don't panic when you see the length of the video on the test! It is rather long but I went over each problem so that you can work on these at home.
If you are planning on retesting over this chapter, you must complete the Request to Retest Form before this coming THURSDAY(Feb 27) during tutorial period. You may want to do this test again on another paper to prepare for the retest.  Make sure you staple all extra work on the form, plus everything else you did to practice these skills.
If you are struggling on any problems after watching this video, I would suggest you review the book examples and videos from chapter 5. I am available also, but time is short, so come in soon.  So, get your paper out, and watch as many times as needed.

Chapter 5.8 FACTORING

Good Morning to all this fine snowy day - I hope you all are enjoying your EXTRA 2 hour sleep due to a snow delay AGAIN!
Getting back to the serious stuff- MATH,
we are working on the last section of the chapter and you know what that means!  Yup...
But before we review for the upcoming CHAPTER 5 Test,
let's go over FACTORING- the undoing of Distributive Property.  Remember in math if you do something, you must be able to undo it also.
So here we undo Expressions back into the
Distributive Property.
And if you look back the natural progression may have been
MULTIPLYING then DIVIDING EXPRESSIONS, but we are Factoring now.
The vocabulary for this section is MONONIAL(terms)

Meet Masie, Harris's little sweetie.

Chapter 5.7 Subtracting Linear Expressions

Good Evening to all,

Today we are going to be Subtracting Linear Expressions- and it is so much like adding them!! BUT one Big Extra Step: The negative sign outside the ( ), makes every term inside ( ) change signs!! Watch your SIGNS and LIKE TERMS and I think you will be all set.  Remember CONSTANTS go with CONSTANTS (numbers with numbers) and Same VARIABLES go with Same VARIABLES!

Natalie, Ryan's puggle, is smiling for the camera!

Chapter 5.6 ADD LINEAR EXPRESSIONS

Good Evening to you all,
Have you checked out the title of this section? Add Linear Expressions?  Sounds tough????
Well, let's not make it tough but easy, so listen to the videos and read the blog
and most importantly, ASK questions in class......
A Linear Expression is an expression that if plotted, it would form a LINE.
Do you see the little word line inside linear?
Another way of defining this would to be to say that the terms are not raised to any power- such as 3^2 or 3 raised to the power of 2.
You know what an expression and the operation of adding is, so this really is not so bad.

Sh................, Cody, Connor's tired little pooch
is catching up on needed sleep.....
